Unbranched bur-reed (Sparganium emersum), or European bur-reed is an aquatic perennial, native to northern Europe. Its stems can grow up to 2 metres in length, and are able to float on the surface of water in order to capture sunlight for photosynthesis. Scanned from a slide taken by CE Palmar in 1981.
