Hagdale Horse Mill, between Baltasound and Haroldswick, Unst, built to separate chromite (an ore of chromium) from the surrounding rock in the 19th century. The horse would have walked round in a circle, pulling a shaft attached to the grinding wheel which crushed the ore.

The Keen of Hamar, Unst is a National Nature Reserve (NNR), Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and and Special Area of Conservation (SAC), designated for its plant and geological interest. It is a hilly moonscape of serpentine scree, and supports rare plants such as the endemic Edmonston's chickweed.

Moonwort (Botrychium lunaria), Keen of Hamar, Unst, a solitary fern with a separate spore-bearing shoot, instead of having spores on the undersides of its leaves. The leaves are half-moon shaped, thus its name.
