Red squirrel (Sciurus vulgaris) at Inshriach, Speyside. Red squirrels are still common in Speyside, protected from the threat of the non-native Grey squirrel (Sciurus carolinensis) which carries the squirrel pox virus, by the mountains, and by conservation efforts along the Highland line and in Aberdeenshire to prevent the spread of Grey squirrels into the Highlands.

Red deer (Cervus elaphus) in Caledonian Pine forest, Speyside. Woodland is the natural habitat for Red deer. This one has at least 10 points on its antlers. Red deer shed their antlers annually and regrow a complete new set every year.
