Moray - Lossiemouth
Weasel (Mustela nivalis) under bird feeders, Lossiemouth. The weasel is a mustelid which looks like a small Stoat. Weasels are carnivorous, being very active hunters, and feed on small mammals, such as voles and mice, as well as small birds. The weasel has a russet-brown back, and a creamy white throat and belly. It is smaller than the similar stoat, has a shorter tail with no black tip, and has a running gait, with a straight back. It is widespread in Scotland, but quite elusive to the casual observer. This one was tempted out by a bird-feeding site.
