Grass-leaved Orache (Atriplex littoralis), Barassie. Scanned from a slide taken by CE Palmar. Like other Oraches, this plant is found by the coast, in the upper part of salt marshes and drift lines. Sometimes forms dense stands. May spread inland along salted road verges.

Orache (Atriplexus sp.) is a widely distributed and variable genus. It includes many seashore halophytes (salt-tolerant plants). This photo was taken at Skinflats RSPB Nature Reserve. The saltmarsh and saline lagoons found here are a rare habitat in the Forth estuary.
