Dark Green Fritillary (Argynnis aglaja) butterfly, Grantown East, Speyside, taken by David Palmar. From the top, the butterfly is orange with black markings, and doesn't look green. The "dark green" refers to the underwing, which has white patches and in many cases the green isn't actually very dark!

Dark Green Fritillary butterfly, Mingulay, Barra. It doesn't look dark green, but underneath it is sage green with white blotches! However, the number 1338 in black on the leading edge of the upper forewing provides a clue to the identity of this species, provided you get a good view!
