Northern Gannet (Morus bassanus) threat display, Ailsa Craig. Gannets build their nests about 1 metre part, which is about beak stabbing distance. Originally pale blue or white, the egg is easily stained brown. If disturbed in such a way that the Gannet flies off, the egg is left unguarded and is liable to chilling or predation.

One is stealing some fishing line from another for nesting material, but if this becomes entangled in its beak, it may not be able to feed and will not survive. Plastic material like this is a significant threat to our seabirds. It does not degrade and may be ingested or entrap its victims.
