South Lanarkshire - Falls of Clyde plants
Coltsfoot (Tussilago farfara) flowering heads will close at night and on cloudy days. This behaviour is called nyctinasty. Scientists aren’t sure why some plants do this, but one theory is that it helps protect the pollen from dew and cold. This photo was taken at Falls of Clyde.
