Gannets (Morus bassanus) on the cliffs of Noss, Shetland. One is stealing some fishing line from another for nesting material, but if this becomes entangled in its beak, it may not be able to feed and will not survive. Plastic material like this is a significant threat to our seabirds. It does not degrade and may be ingested or entrap its victims.
