Loch Lomond - RSPB Loch Lomond
Lesser Redpoll (Acanthis cabaret) at RSPB Loch Lomond. Picture taken by David Palmar. This is an immature or first winter female Redpoll with a brown crown. The bird lacks an obvious red 'poll' but seems to be acquiring some yellowish feathering in the forehead, something shown by a small minority of redpolls. The warm brown plumage hues and highly streaked plumage show that this is a Lesser Redpoll. Description improved by Ilaria Lonero.
