Two eggs of a Golden Eagle (Aquila chrysaetos) resting on a pad of Greater Woodrush, with which most eyries are lined. The eggs are about the same size as a Turkey's, and are legally protected by extra heavy penalites under the Protection of Birds Act 1954, as they are coveted by unscrupulous egg thieves. Two forms the usual clutch, and they are laid in the second half of March as a rule. Scanned from a photo taken by CE Palmar in the early 1950s, probably 1953.
