Campsie and Fintry Hills
A male Common Crossbill (Loxia curvirostra) feeding on a Sitka spruce cone in the Fintry Hills. Crossbills have very different sizes of bills, correlating with different food and habitat preferences, as well as distinct flight calls, these characteristics splitting Crossbills into eight separate types. It is likely that in the future these types will be classified as multiple species. Description improved by Ilaria Lonero.
