An ancient and apparently healthy Juniper (Juniperus communis) in Abernethy Forest near Nethybridge, where a minority of the Junper plants are dead or dying, possibly infected with the fungal disease Phytophthora sp. The ancient nature of this bush can be deduced from the think gnarled trunk.

An ancient tree root in a drainage ditch on the Dubh Lochans Trail, Forsinard Flows RSPB Nature Reserve. Trees grew in warmer, drier climates of the postglacial era, then cooler wetter conditions hastened their demise and promoted the growth of peat.
