A male Wolf spider (Pardosa sp.) at Beecraigs Country Park, West Lothian. Pedipalps (the pair of smaller appendages protruding from the head) are large and bulbous in males, as seen in this specimen, compared to females.

Long-jawed orb-weaver spider (Tetragnatha extensa), Beecraigs Country Park, West Lothian. This specimen has a parasitic wasp larva on its abdomen. This explains the difference in size and colouration of this specimen compared to typical characteristics of this species.

Lace-webbed spider (Amaurobius sp.) at Millport, Great Cumbrae. The specimen would have to be viewed under a microscope to identify the precise species. It could be Amaurobius fenestralis, found more commonly in woodland, under stones and moss or Amaurobius similis which is typically found in cracks and crevices of buildings and outhouses. Both are common species of Lace-webbed spider in the UK.
