Small Pearl-bordered Fritillary (Boloria selene), Whin Park (Compartment 11), RSPB Loch Lomond, taken by David Palmar. The underwing has large black dot in an orange cell (see enlarged section), which distinguishes the Small PBF from the Pearl-bordered, which has a small lighter coloured dot.

Small Pearl-bordered Fritillary (Boloria selene), Whin Park (Compartment 11), RSPB Loch Lomond, taken by David Palmar. Here is an ID tip if you can only see the upperwing of a fritillary. With a bit of imagination, you should see a black pattern of markings on the leading edge of the left upper forewing, resembling 730 (see enlarged section), which is a characteristic of both Pearl and Small Pearl-bordered Fritillaries. That distinguishes them from the Dark Green Fritillary, which has a dfifferent pattern in the same place resembling 1338. Depending on your view of the butterfly, you may need to look upside-down to see these patterns.

Broad-leaved Helleborine (Epipactis helleborine), a plant in the family Orchidaceae, in Richmond Park Glasgow. The Broad-leaved Helleborine can often be found on wastelands in and around Glasgow, as well as in woodlands. It is colloquially known as "the Glasgow weed".
