Tay Reed Beds
The Tay Reed Beds with the Tay Bridge and the north coast of Fife in the background. The Tay Reed Beds cover 410 hectares and are the largest continuous reed beds in Britain, consisting of Common reed (Phragmites australis). They are an SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest) and an SPA (Special Protection Area) for their nature conservation value. A Grey heron (Ardea cinerea) is flying over the reed bed.

Chickweed Wintergreen (Trientalis europaea), best seen in June and July. Also known as the Arctic Starflower, it grows in woodlands in the north of England and Scotland. Its common name is misleading - it is neither a chickweed nor a wintergreen, but a member of the primrose family. Here is is growing in Curr Woods, near Dulnain Bridge in Speyside.

Its common name is misleading - it is neither a chickweed nor a wintergreen, but a member of the primrose family. Here is is growing in Curr Woods, near Dulnain Bridge in Speyside. The flower is over, and the seed head remains. Notice the Primrose-like leaves.
