Sycamore Gall Mite galls (possibly Aceria or Aculops sp.) on Sycamore (Acer pseudoplatanus) leaves. Sycamore, seen here on the Kelvin Walkway, Glasgow, is native to Central Europe and Asia, but is an introduced species in the UK. The mite is a tiny insect which feeds on the plant tissue, causing the leaves to react by cell division, forimng the gall. By May, the mite lays eggs in the galls.
