Amongst plants seeded there are cornflowers (Centaurea cyanus), an annual which encourages pollinators. Wildflower meadows are an important habitat for a variety of species. However we have lost over 97% of them in the UK since the 1930s.

Hoverfly (Dasysyrphus albostriatus) on Ragwort (Jacobaea vulgaris) at Bo'ness. This species can be identified by the three pairs of oblique yellow bars on the black abdomen, sometimes forming V-shapes, and two grey stripes on its thorax (which you can see in the enlarged section of the photo).

The Oxeye daisy (Leucanthemum vulgare) is similar in appearance to a daisy but much larger, with flowerheads around 6cm across. It grows in wildflower meadows between June and August and is possibly in decline in Scotland. This picture was taken at Bridgeness Biodiversity Day, Bo'ness.
