Firth of Clyde - Ailsa Craig scenery, plants and animals
Hawkweed (Hieracium agg.) and Devil's Bit Scabious (Succisa pratensis) on Ailsa Craig. Hawkeed is very difficult to ID down to species and it is generally represented by the term aggregate (agg). Devil's Bit Scabious is attractive to a range of invertebrates, including the declining Marsh Fritillary butterfly (Euphydryas aurinia).

Small copper (Lycaena phlaeas) on Devil's Bit Scabious (Succisa pratensis) at Falls of Clyde. Despite still being fairly common, this butterfly went through declines throughout the 20th century. It can be found in a range of habitats, excluding the uplands of Northern Britain. This one was photographed at at Falls of Clyde.

Meadow Brown (Maniola jurtina) are common throughout the UK and easy to spot, however many are being lost due to agricultural intensification. This one was sitting on Devil's Bit Scabious (Succisa pratensis) at the Falls of Clyde.
