Perennial Sow-thistle (Sonchus arvensis), taken by David Palmar. The basal leaves are pinnately lobed, each lobe contains spiny shaped teeth. The branches of this plant are densely covered in glandular hairs.

Native to moist alpine regions of Asia, from Afghanistan to south eastern Tibet, Burma and China, introduced and cultivated to a range of shades of purples and blues. Denticulata means "small-toothed", referring to the serrated leaf edges.
