Tiree
Northern Minke whale (Balaenoptera acutorostrata) off Gunna Sound between Coll and Tiree, Argyllshire, looking towards Bac Mòr, or the Dutchman's Cap. The name Minke is thought to be a partial translation of Norwegian minkehval, possibly after a Norwegian whaler named Meincke, who mistook a Northern Minke Whale for a Blue Whale.

Solway and Caerlaverock, Dumfriesshire
View from the Peter Scott Observatory, Caelaverock Wetlands Centre of the warden feeding the Whooper Swans (Cygnus cygnus), Mute Swans (Cygnus olor), Canada Geese and ducks such as Wigeon and Tufted Duck which frequent the Whooper Pond, especially at the feeding times of 11am and 2pm. Here the warden is leading the wildfowl, particularly the swans, into a funnel-shaped swan pipe where he completes the feeding every day. Then when it is occasionally necessary to catch the birds to monitor or ring them, they are already in the trap and he just needs to close the door and catch them. The reserve is run by the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust (WWT) and has excellent facilities.
