Earl's Palace, Brough of Birsay, Orkney, constructed in the late 16th century round a courtyard, by Robert Stewart, half brother to Mary Queen of Scots, who created him Earl of Orkney. His son Earl Patrick succeeded him and made changes to the palace, but with the overthrow of the Stewarts, by 1700 the Palace became neglected and roofless.
