A pair of Eider Ducks (Somateria mollissima) were not impressed by the sudden appearance of a Herring Gull (Larus argentatus). Dunlin (Calidris alpina), Sanderling (Calidris alba), and Ringed Plover (Charadrius hiaticula) can also be seen on the shore.

Common Gull (Larus canus) on Great Cumbrae, North Ayrshire. Common Gulls breed on Great Cumbrae, but in smaller numbers than in the past, largely due to predation and disturbance. The Common Gull has yellow legs, which distinguish it from the rather similar Kittiwake, which has black legs.
