Coltsfoot (Tussilago farfara), Tamfourhill Wood, Falkirk. Coltsfoot can be distinguished from Dandelions by often having darker centres of the flower heads (the Dandelion flower is uniform yellow), and by the scaly stem (the Dandelion stem is smooth). The flowers appear in March before the leaves, which are heart-shaped and quite large in relation to the size of the flower.
