CEP - Torridon and Applecross
A subspecies of the Juniper that it more common at lower levels, Dwarf Juniper (Juniperus communis nana willd) grows on a smaller scale at greater altitudes. This specimen was found on the slopes of Beinn Eighe. Scanned from a slide taken by CE Palmar.

Juniper (Juniperus communis), taken by David Palmar on the Juniper Walk at the Trees for Life rewilding centre, Dundreggan, Invernessshire. The plant is clearly suffering from a form of dieback, probably a species of Phytophthora, a fungus-like disease in the soil, which is spreading in Larch and Rhododendron amongst other plants.

A sandy hillock or Kame, probably arising from fluvioglacial activity towards the end of the last ice age, rises out of the Spey floodplain on Insh Marshes RSPB reserve. On its welldrained slopes a thicket of Juniper grows. Taken by David Palmar
