Clickimin Broch, dating from the Iron Age, occupies a well-defended site in Clickimin Loch, Lerwick, and is floodlit at night. In this picture it is 11.15pm and hardly dark, the simmer dim as it is known in Shetland.

This picture was taken at 7 minutes after midnight in what Shetlanders call the simmer dim (summer twilight), with an f1.4 lens at ISO 25600. Flash photography is not permitted as under the Wildlife and the Countryside Act, disturbing a schedule 1 species at or near the nest is illegal.
