Daffodil (Narcissus sp), Hogganfield Park, Seven Lochs Wetland Park, Glasgow. The pollen on the anthers (the male part) can be clearly seen. In the middle of the anthers is the stigma (a female part).

In Greek mythology Narcissus was a beautiful man who fell in love with his own reflection in the water and killed himself in pining. The flowers that now bear his name - Daffodils (Narcissus sp.) - are thought to have sprung up where he died and also admire themselves in the water. This photo was taken at Falls of Clyde.

Daffodils (Narcissus sp.) are hardy perennials, that return each year to herald the coming of spring with their bright colours.
This photo was taken at Gallanach, Coll.
The field full of Daffodils was deliberately planted and is left over from an attempt at selling daffodil bulbs in the 1950s. The heads were removed when in full bloom, leaving the bulbs to be harvested later in the season.
