Cleits near the Gap on Hirta, St Kilda 06370 79 Western Isles - St Kilda Cleits on the climb up to the Gap on Hirta, St Kilda. The Gap is a relatively low point in the northern cliffs between the highest point Conachair, and the cliffs below Oisebhal to the south-east. The Gap at about 160 metres above sea level is a relatively accessible point to aim for on a St Kilda day trip. Cleits were used for storage of fuel and seabirds, mainly Fulmars, Gannets and Puffins as a cache of food for the winter. 24 June 2011
