Puffins (Fratercula arctica) nest in burrows, where they lay a single egg with each parent taking it in turns to incubate it. To create their burrows Puffins use their bills to cut into the soil and then shovel away loose material using their feet, the high density of Puffins resulting in large areas of bare ground.
