Rusty-Backed Fern (Asplenium ceterach). A fern found in alkaline crevices such as limestone rocks and drystone walls. Name derived from scales and spores on underside which turn brown. Scanned from a slide taken by CE Palmar, taken at Bridgend, Islay.

Bridgend and the River Add from Dunadd, a 2400 year old fortified farmstead which became a fortress, from which the Kings of Dalriada (Dal Riata) ruled, the descendants of whom became the Kings of the early Scots.
