Commonly known as Oyster plant or sea bluebells, Mertensia maritima is a flowering member of the borage family, found in coastal areas of north west Europe. In Shetland, it is commonly referred to as oysterleaf, as it is said that the leaves have a shellfish flavour! Scanned from a slide taken by CE Palmar in 1981.
