A female Kingfisher (Alcedo atthis) perching on a twig above the River Kelvin, Glasgow, taken by David Palmar. Seeing one is a matter of chance as it flies along at least a kilometre of river as its territory. Catching one on camera after about 20 attempts to find one on the same bank as the footpath was a bonus! This bird is a female, as its lower mandible has pink on it, whereas the male's beak is entirely black.
