Tiree
Dunlin (Calidris alpina) and Ringed Plover (Charadrius hiaticula), Salum Bay, Tiree. Dunlin breed in modest numbers on Tiree, with some evidence that recent declines have been stabilised. Hundreds or thousands are seen during migration, especially in April and May. Dunlin lose their black belly in winter. Nationally important numbers of Ringed plovers breed on Tiree with up to 400 pairs breeding, while wintering numbers are of international importance, with several hundred birds around the coast.
