All three of the Isle of May’s lighthouses can be seen in this picture, taken by Gemma Woodford. The original lighthouse named ‘the Beacon’ (left) was built in 1635. Robert Stephenson built a newer lighthouse in 1816 (centre). Stephenson then built another in 1844 called the ‘Low lighthouse’ (right) which has been redundant since 1887, and is now used by the Isle of May Bird Observatory..
